Giving Tuesday: Top Tips for the Day Of

Giving Tuesday, one of the biggest events in the fundraising world, is about to happen and we want all of our non-profit friends to be well equipped to handle the busy day. Here's our top tips to make the most out of #GivingTuesday:

1. Listen

Giving Tuesday isn't just for posting and raising awareness of your cause. It's also an opportunity to find out what your followers and donors are up to. Follow the #GivingTuesday hashtag and engage with those using it. Search other keywords related to your organization. For example, if you are a food bank, search for "food bank." Perhaps those using those keywords are your next potential big donor or volunteer! Similarly, look for hashtags that are being used alongside #GivingTuesday and add those to your posts to amplify your reach.

2. Make It Easy to Give

While raising awareness is definitely a huge part of Giving Tuesday, you'll want to make sure you convert those to donations! That means including trackable links with your posts. Don't assume people know where to go to donate to you, especially for new supporters. By including a link with your posts, you reduce as much "friction." The alternate is a new supporter having to search for your webpage (step one), find the link to the donation page (step two), and then click on the donation page (step three). Providing a link turns those three steps into one! This decreases the likelihood that a new donor will walk away if they get frustrated trying to find your donation page.

3. Give Live Updates

After making sure you're tracking new donations and volunteers (and whatever else metrics are important to you for this campaign), post updates to your followers to build excitement. Giving Tuesday is ilke the "Super Bowl" of the non-profit world so chatter is at an all-time high. Ride the wave of this excitement by continually posting how you're achieving your milestones. If you're not, then post about that too as it will help build a sense of urgency. For example, "We're soo close to achieving our half-day goal of $5,000. Donate now at to get us over the line!"
